Tuesday, October 19, 2004 You know how they say:"Oh she's so nice, she wouldn't even hurt an ant.." ? Well i hesitated to kill some ants today.. so am I nice? *blink-blink* Hee now since we've all agreed on that, here's what I really wanted to say.. I saw a trail of ants in my bathroom today (there usually arent any) .. though it was sparse, they were a very cooperative line of ants... you know, they march in single-file, 'connect' with each other should they cross paths, move at almost uniform pace.. and I followed them for a while to see where they were heading, (or originated from).. but after a shorter while, I got bored and decided to smush 'em.. Dampened a tissue and --- *SpLaT* --- dragged it head on against the modest infantry.. Firstly, ants are amazingly strong.. but all books tell us that.. I pressed the tissue on them as hard as I could but they were still wriggling about when i let go (and these are the little itty bitty ants, mind you).. Nevertheless.. I squished them. All but one. Let's call him "Dan". This one ant, Dan, now moved aimlessly, occasionally changing pace, but in unmistakably disoriented circles. Then I began to think... Perhaps the worst feeling in the world is being lost and lonely. Not just lost, cuz if you're lost with a friend, then its hardly half as bad. And not just lonely, cuz spending alone-time with yourself can be quite enjoyable. But not when you're lost and lonely.. then you become scared.. you wont have the will to survive.. (hehe ok, lame) And just when I was about to put little private Dan out of his misery... the reinforcements came! Yup - 3 other little ants snuck out from no where and ran towards the direction of the survivor! I could almost see the stretcher they were bringing for him.. haha.. Touched with all this imaginary drama, I decided to give them - The Happy Ending. I sent all of them on a complentary Superstar Tissue cruise in the Paradise of my Porcelain Fountain. =)

Heh, I sent this to my mom just now: A mother passing by her daughter's bedroom was astonished to see the bed was nicely made and everything was picked up. Then she saw an envelope propped up prominently on the center of the bed. It was addressed,"Mom." With the worst premonition, she opened the envelope and read the letter with trembling hands: Dear Mom, It is with great regret and sorrow that I'm writing you. I had to elope with my new boyfriend because I wanted to avoid a scene with Dad and you. I've been finding real passion with John and he is so nice-even with all his piercings, tattoos, beard, and his motorcycle clothes. But it's not only the passion mom! I'm pregnant and John said that we will be very happy. He already owns a trailer in the woods and has a stack of firewood for the whole winter. He wants to have many more children with me and that's now one of my dreams too. John taught me that marijuana doesn't really hurt anyone and we'll be growing it for us and trading it with his friends for all the cocaine and ecstasy we want. In the meantime, we'll pray that science will find a cure for AIDS so John can get better; he sure deserves it!! Don't worry Mom, I'm 15 years old now and I know how to take care of myself. Someday I'm sure we'll be back to visit so you can get to know your grandchildren. Your daughter, Judith PS: Mom, none of the above is true. I'm over at the neighbor's house. I just wanted to remind you that there are worse things in life than my report card that's in my desk center drawer. I love you! Call when it is safe for me to come home.
Friday, October 08, 2004 L-O-V-E.. spelled out!Interesting bits from the touchy-feely chapter of Social Psychology.. 3 Types of Primary Love: Eros - self-disclosing passion Ludus - uncommited game-playing Storge - friendship (Combinations will form Secondary Love, example: Eros + Ludus = Mania)
Components of Love:
Couples who do exciting things together (eg: scary movies, rollercoasters, physical exercise) report the best relationships. Adrenaline makes the heart grow fonder.
It is actually men who tend to fall more readily in love and also men who also seem to fall out of love more slowly and are less likely than women to breakup a premaritial romance. Women in love, however, are typically as emotionally involved as their partners, or even more so. They are more likely to report feeling euphoric and "giddy and carefree" as if they were "floating on a cloud". Women are also somewhat more likely than men to focus on the intimacy of the friendship and on their concern for their partner. Men are more likely than women to think about the playful and physical aspects of the relationship. (Hendrick and Hendrick, 1995)
