Friday, February 27, 2004 This songs for my baby..We're caught in a trap I can't walk out Because I love you too much baby Why can't you see What you're doing to me When you don't believe a word I say? We can't go on together With suspicious minds And we can't build our dreams On suspicious minds So if an old friend I know Drops by to say hello, Would I still see suspicion in your eyes? Here we go again Asking where I've been You can't see the tears are real I'm crying (yes i'm crying) We can't go on together With suspicious minds And we can't build our dreams On suspicious minds Oh let our love survive I'll dry the tears from your eyes Let's don't let a good thing die When honey, you know I've never lied to you MUSICiLIKE: "Suspicious Minds" - Elvis Presley

Wednesday, February 18, 2004 oooh and check out the JAM X finals article/photos on Funkygrad.. they used my photo for the link! *hehehe.. cheap thrill*.. articles on alota other stuff too.. like bashes and productionsanyways.. here's an exerpt: Jam X Competition 2004 by Desmond Neo, NTU Computer Engineering, photography by Kelvin 3am 3am opened with their rendition of Frankie Valli's 'Can't Take My Eyes Off You' with an interesting guitar intro filled with use of the tremolo bar, casting an interesting, if not superfluous, vibrato effect appropriate for their song. Their bassist churned out remarkable jazz inspired riffs, with their keyboardist providing a dreamy, tranquil quality of mood music in the background. Oh yeah, and the singer was hot 'Can't Take My Eyes Off You' drifted seamlessly into their rendition of Toploader's rendition of King Harvest's 'Dancing In The Moonlight', and then back to 'Can't Take My Eyes Off You'. I especially loved it when the band took out half-filled (or half-empty) newater bottles and blew into them, parodying Carlsberg's advertisement with the theme song. Their original piece 'Wronged', was an eclectic mix of sound, which seemingly took inspiration from Blackmore's Night (this was not the last time Ritchie Blackmore would influence the music at JamX 2004), providing a hint of Celtic charm in the song, as well as blending Latin riffs similar to Antonio Carlos Jobim's 'Girl From Ipanema'. By this time, the tent was crowded with audience and passers-by entranced like the ancient Greek sailors to the sound of the Sirens (I might be exaggerating; I have not heard the Sirens sing, for as mythology goes, I would not be alive). Well well.. the KR Dinner and Dance/ Pageant has finally come to an end.. lots of work, but all worthwhile and fun i must say.. actual night last night zoomed by rather fast.. but all good things come to an end soon or later i guess.. I'm Miss Photogenic, by the way *grin* hahaha.. Raymond is Mr. Personality and Basu and Peichoo are Mr and Miss KR!.. way to go! =) but that wasnt the best part.. my happiest moment was actually before the show.. when shane stopped by the dressing room holding this gigantic bouquet of white lilies in pink/purple paper!! they were so beautiful, i wasnt even sure if they were for me!! Thereafter i just sat in the dressing room, smiling to myself while hugging that bouquet like a stuffed toy. hehe my first time getting so many flowers k?!! and they're my favorite too!! *heh.. thanks nat* hehe.. and of course.. thanks shane, for a wonderful first month anniversary ( i got a mini silver beetle model and gucci envy perfume too!! you're the best *hug*)

(read: ACJC Prom @ Ritz 2003) I'm kinda lazy so im just gonna put up an article i wrote for my hall publication.. Jam X Competition 2004 … Turn us on. By Mildred Jam X- just the name epitomizes the pride and glamour of our legendary seniors, Burnout. An annual event organised by the NUS Cultural Activities Club, Jam X is a band competition for tertiary students. Being the junior sequels to last year’s Jam X champions – Ghaz, Felie, Ezal, Tze, Donikon, Godwin, and Kaizhen - my band of new Rockers and I obviously felt the pressure to prove our own worth. KR entered two teams into the competition this year: Silveretta- comprising of Hafez, Suping, Andrew, Rujin, Hongfeng, and Belinda, and 3 AM- comprising of Shane, Keith, Eugene, Joyce and yours truly. Though the December holiday was hardly enough practice time for us busy people who had to handle Hall Opening, IHG, production, work, etc, we practiced late into the nights, entertaining D Block with free samples of our musical talents till, well, past 3 am. For the preliminary round on January 4th, 3 AM performed a unique remix of Natalie Imbrulia’s ‘Torn’ with the number one song of 2003 ‘Where Is The Love’, and our original progressive rock composition, ‘Wrong’; while Silveretta did a snazzy cover of Aerosmith’s ‘Walk This Way’ and their own composition ‘Seventy-Two’. KR supporters more than rocked Youth Park that day, their presence really boosted our moral. And if I may add a personal note, seeing my hall mates from behind the microphone helped me overcome stage fright as a performer for the first time ever - thanks. However, as the day came to end and the 8 finalist bands from the pool of 30 were announced one after another, our hearts sank with the calling of every other band’s name. By the seventh band called out, we were already prepared to console ourselves with better luck next year as the emcee cried “..and last, but definitely not least, 3 AM!” Now we were hysterical. Yet, the feelings were mixed: on one hand we were obviously thrilled to be the only NUS hall band on the list of finalists, but on the other, we Rockers had always envisioned both our bands making it through together. With the onset of the new semester, we didn’t have much time to prepare for the finals set to be on January 17. In fact, 3 AM had to prepare a new cover song for the competition in merely 3 jamming sessions, but still, that didn’t dry our creative juices. We decided to play the ever popular and sexy track, ‘Can’t Take My Eyes Off Of You’ – complete with the Carlsberg commercial bottle gimmick and twisted with a segment of ‘Dancing in the Moonlight’. On the big day itself, our friends from KR once again gave us their much appreciated undying support by crowding up the stage area outside The Atrium @ Orchard. At this point, 3 AM knew that all we cared about was putting up a good show and having fun that night; should we win, it would just be a bonus. And as the third band performing that night, I say we really woke the crowd up with our upbeat tunes and all-smiles stage presence. Before the results were announced, Burnout was invited as a guest band to play their last gig as reigning champions of Jam-X. Ghaz did an awesome impersonation of The Darkness’ front man with the fresh hit ‘I Believe In A Thing Called Love’ as well as old rock numbers like the smooth ‘Journey’ and Bon Jovi’s ‘Highway to Hell’. Well according to the judges’ comments, this year’s contestants displayed the widest genres of music than ever before, including funk, metal, jazz, pop, punk, old school etc, thus making them very challenging to rank. Nevertheless, the results were as such: 2nd Runner Up - T-Issue from the NUS Jazz Band (the only other band from NUS), there were two 1st Runner Up’s – X and DrummerGirlPorn, and the winner was Soul’d Out, a very deserving funk band. So although we didn’t win anything of material recognition, I believe we were hardly disheartened. The competition was a great learning and bonding experience for 3 AM. And for me, this being my first outdoor gig, it was an absolute eye-opener, motivator and milestone in my diary as performer – I could not ask for more. But even still, I got more. Since this is the Valentine’s Day issue of Rendezvous, I have decided to share a mushy slice of my lovey-dovey life with you (as well as to confirm all gushy speculations). After the finals that night, 3 AM’s guitarist - my closest band mate and very special friend – took me for a long walk, and on that night we became a couple. Baby, if you’re reading this, please know that I’m so happy to be with you. Happy Valentine’s Day! Well love amongst Rockers is no news; we take our precedence from our boss Rujin and Suping, sweetie-pies Eugene and CJ… but is it just me, or do I (and a lot of other people) sense another one heating up? Hmm...{^_^}?!?
